Tyson Scarcella was overwhelmed when told he’d been selected to represent Australia in a futsal competition in April.
The Taylors Lakes’ teenager represents Victoria in the Australian Futsal Association, a modified form of soccer played with five players per side, usually indoors.
He is also part of the Taylors Lakes Secondary College’s soccer academy.
His mother, Karen, said Tyson was “lost for words” when he found out he’d made it into the under-14s team headed for the United Kingdom and Europe.
The teen loves the passionate nature of “the world game,” but feels nervous about donning Australia’s colours on the other side of the world.
“It’s my first time representing Australia, and I’m going to be playing in front of a lot of people,” Tyson said.
A recent three-month trip to Italy with his grandfather led him to add AC Milan to his list of favourite clubs, alongside Melbourne Victory, which he’s been a member of for seven years.
It will cost Tyson’s family $7500 to send him on his way.
