FFV: Keilor Park Eagles soar to five-star win over United

Keilor Park ran riot to thump Sunbury United 5-0 in men’s state league 1 north-west on Saturday.

“I thought it would have been very competitive against Sunbury, which is like a derby for us,” Eagles coach Anthony Sacco said after the match at Langama Park.

“Everything just seemed to work. We’re a young side and as confidence grows, we get better.”

Sacco said he was pleased how his side maintained the pressure in the second half, despite leading 3-0 lead at the break.

“You can get a little complacent when you’re 3-0 up but the boys have matured a bit over the past 12 months and they kept the pressure up. It could have been more as we created eight or nine chances.”

Eagles committee member Eric Psarianos said the performance of Sean Sacco in the midfield was the standout.

“He absolutely dominated and got the boys going when he scored,” he said.

“The wide open spaces suited our guys and we had a lot of pace up front, which really troubled them.”

The coach said he would welcome the Easter break this weekend.

“We have a few guys coming back so the week’s rest will help with that,” he said. “We have midweek games coming up, so it’s good to have all the players on the park.”

In other state league 1 north-west games, Cairnlea drew 3-3 with Fawkner Blues.

In state league 2 north-west 2, North Sunshine beat Hume United 2-1 and Westvale hammered La Trobe University 7-1.

The Western Eagles had a 2-1 win against Brunswick in state league 3 north-west, while in state league 5 west, Keilor Wolves and Spring Hills both scored wins.
