COVID-19 statistics show Brimbank recorded more deaths from COVID in the first four months this year than it did in 2021.
Between January 1 and April 30 this year, there were 79 deaths from COVID compared to 63 in total last year.
Brimbank has already surpassed last year’s total deaths from COVID and is 23 away from surpassing the 101 total deaths recorded in 2020.
Melton recorded 23 deaths from COVID to May 27 this year, which was 56 less than what Brimbank recorded in the first four months this year.
A Health Department spokesperson said the best way people could protect themselves was by getting vaccinated.
“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to all the families and friends who have lost loved ones to COVID-19 over the course of the pandemic,” the spokesperson said.
“Victoria has introduced a vast range of measures – such as targeted pop-up vaccination sites, local public health units and the Covid Positive Pathways program – to help people stay safe from COVID-19 and support their recovery if infected.
“The best thing Victorians can do to protect themselves from COVID-19 is to get their third dose as soon as they’re eligible.”
On Monday, May 30 Brimbank recorded 145 new COVID-19 cases with 1238 active cases in the community.
Brimbank has the sixth worst third dose vaccine rate by LGA in the state with 65 per cent having received more than two doses of the COVID vaccine.
Hume has the worst third dose vaccine rate at 56.7 per cent.
