Fraser Labor MP Daniel Mulino has retained his seat as part of a Labor victory in the 2022 Federal Election despite a 3.01 per cent swing against Labor in the electorate.
Mr Mulino received 65.04 per cent of the two-party preferred votes, with 47,221 votes, compared to Liberal Party candidate David Wood’s 25,384 votes (34.96 per cent).
Mr Mulino secured 30,755 first preference votes, followed by Mr Wood (18.013 votes), Greens candidate Bella Mitchell-Sears ( 12,917) and Victorian Socialists’ Catherine Robertson ( 3828)
Mr Mulino said he was grateful to have been re-elected as the member for Fraser and honoured to have the opportunity to continue working with, and working for, the community.
“I am so excited to represent Fraser as part of an Albanese Labor government that will deliver a stronger Medicare, cheaper childcare, more secure jobs, and new investment in aged care, the NDIS [National Disability Insurance Scheme] and all the services that people across Fraser rely on,” he said.
“I am thrilled that Labor’s victory allows us to deliver $15 million to upgrade the Whitten Oval, to make a major investment in the Vietnamese Museum of Australia in Footscray, to upgrade Quang Minh Temple in Braybrook and to ensure that a nurse will be onsite 24/7 in every Fraser residential aged care centre.
“This is only fourth time since the Second World War that Labor has formed government from opposition. Led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Labor is humbled by this victory. We will govern in the tradition of previous Labor Governments that built Medicare, the NDIS, universal superannuation, stronger protections for workers and the modern Australian economy.”
In Gorton, Brendan O’Connor received 59.73 per cent (41,203 votes)of the two-party preferred vote, compared to Liberal candidate John Fletcher’s 40. 27 per cent (27,775 votes). This represented a swing of 4.51 per cent against Labor.
Former Labor leader Bill Shorten will also be re-elected in the seat of Maribyrnong, which covers Keilor Park, Keilor Downs and Tullamarine, after securing 62.12 per cent of the two-party preferred vote. There was a swing of 1.81 per cent towards Labor in this electorate.
