A Cairnlea woman’s decision to take an Environment Protection Authority Victoria litter fine to court has backfired.

The women, who took the fine to court and after being pleading guilty, not only had to pay the fine, but also legal costs.

She will have to pay nearly $470 in total.

The case followed a report from a member of the public that they had seen the woman drop a plastic or glass bottle from a car in Station Road in Deer Park.

The witness told EPA the driver was alone in the vehicle, there were no other vehicles nearby and the bottle was thrown from the driver’s window and appeared to bounce on the ground.
