People with disabilities and their carers are being encouraged to have their say in Brimbank council’s new disability action plan.
The council’s plan aims to create a stronger, accessible and inclusive community.
The council has put out a survey for residents to show their feedback and stories.
Once finalised, the plan will outline the community’s needs and expectations, along with guiding the council’s priorities for people with disability, their carers, families and friends.
Full-time carer Jenny Willis is one of those helping the council design the plan.
Ms Willis, whose son Dan has epilepsy and global brain damage, is part of the Brimbank Disability Network, who meet one morning bi-monthly, and works with the council on the disability advisory committee.
“People with disabilities and their carers need to speak up to give a better understanding of their needs in the community,” Ms Willis said.
“Change will come when you put your voice to paper and have your say.
“I encourage all that are affected by the plan to take the time to tell your stories and be heard, this is your opportunity for change.”
Council’s survey will be open until August 23.
