Dive into reading

Bookworms have the chance to win an Android tablet or book vouchers just for reading.

Brimbank council’s annual Summer Reading Challenge, which will conclude at the end of this month, encourages children aged 0-15 to pick up a book and read.

Previously known as the Summer Reading Club, the challenge is a state-wide initiative run by Victorian Libraries that keeps kids reading over summer and keeps their reading skills sharp.

Sunshine pair Scout and Phoebe are among children with their heads stuck in books during the holidays.

“Reading is my passion,” 12-year-old Scout said. “Through books I can explore the world. I can learn about the past, imagine the future, and discover different characters and experiences.”

Phoebe, who is also 12, said: “Reading doesn’t have to be expensive or time consuming – I love to borrow audiobooks from the library using Borrowbox, and I can listen to them while I’m doing something else”.

To enter the competition, you have to either read six books or for six hours. Children can enter as many times as they like if they read plenty of books.
