Green Gully in charge in NPL Vic

Green Gully is building some real momentum in the lead-up to the NPL Victoria finals.

The Cavaliers have gone 10 games without defeat, winning four and drawing six in a span that dates back to the first day of June.

On Friday night, Green Gully had a big 3-1 win over another finals contender Hume City on the road at Broadmeadows Valley Park.

It took 45 minutes for the Cavaliers to take control on the scoreboard through a goal to Matthew Fletcher, but they would not give up the lead the rest of the way.

Fletcher doubled the Cavs lead eight minutes after the break.

Cavaliers captain Nick Kalmar rubbed salt into the wounds with a goal in the 88th minute.

Hume City refused to give in and got a consolation goal through Daniel Dixon in the dying stage.

A big win for Green Gully has moved it to within one point of third-placed Bentleigh Greens with two rounds to play.

Green Gully will host a desperate Dandenong Thunder looking to avoid relegation in the penultimate round at Green Gully Reserve next Saturday, with a competition wide bye this weekend.

Melbourne Knights have been eliminated from the top six race after a disappointing 2-0 loss to Kingston City at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex on Friday night.

The Knights can focus their full attention on what will be one of the biggest week’s for the club in some time.

They will take national spotlight on Wednesday night when they host A-League club Adelaide United at Knights Stadium from 7.30pm in the FFA Cup round of 32.

Then on Saturday at 5pm, the Knights will meet Hume City in the Dockerty Cup final at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex.

The two teams will face each other twice in just over a week. The two will face each other in the next round of the NPL competition.
