New park court is ace

Taylors Lakes’ budding tennis stars now have even more options to learn the game with the opening of a new public Hot Shots court in The Lakes Reserve.

The court, which is the first in Victoria to be built in a public park, features a permanent net and is designed to help kids and families learn and enjoy the game of tennis.

The court, in Chichester Drive, came about by a partnership between Brimbank council and Tennis Victoria. Mayor Margaret Giudice said it would give more opportunities for residents to take up tennis.

“At Brimbank council we’re committed to helping our community get active [and] we know Brimbank loves tennis, so we jumped at the opportunity to work with Tennis Victoria to bring this public Hot Shots court to our community,” Cr Giudice said.

“The Lakes Reserve is one of our flagship parks and is very popular with the community. I have no doubt this Hot Shots court will be a hit with residents and will be well used into the future.”

Hot Shots Tennis is designed to get more children active in the sport and is played on smaller courts with smaller racquets and nets, and low compression balls.

The reduced size makes it easy for children to participate and learn the sport from an early age.

Construction of the court cost $35,000, with a further $5000 for seating and site improvements. Tennis Victoria and Brimbank council contributed $20,000 each to the project.
