My Brimbank: Bob Taylor

Bob Taylor is the production manager at Stereo 974 radio in Braybrook, and has been in the entertainment industry for 60 years. He spoke to Ewen McRae

What is your connection to Brimbank?

My connection started over 20 years ago when I joined the team here at Stereo 974. Then after my first 10 years of working in the area I loved it so much I decided to re-locate to Brimbank.

What do you like best about the area?

I like how there are many options of shopping centres all within minutes of each other offering much variety to the area. Everything is very accessible and easy to reach from the different suburbs within Brimbank.

What could make the area better?

I think there is a major need for road upgrades now that there is many more houses being built with a lot more suburbs using our roads to and from their destinations.

A lot of the older roads have not been built to handle such growth.

Where is your favourite place to go for a feed in Brimbank?

One of my favorite places is the Watergardens restaurant precinct as it has a great variety of restaurants day and night with many options to choose from. Another favourite is the Taylors Lakes Hotel.

When did you start at Stereo 974, and what have your roles been there?

I started with Stereo 974 in 1998 as their sales representative, I then became an announcer on air with the station before moving into the role of programming and music director.

What have been the highlights in 60 years in radio and TV?

Being the youngest announcer at 3XY and top-rated disc jockey at 7HT Hobart and then moving on to run my own business The Announcers Academy for 27 years, training hundreds of announcers and many top news readers and disc jockeys.

What is it that makes Stereo 974 such an important part of the community?

Stereo 974 caters to our community which is made up of both ethnic and English speaking households. We also work closely with the Emergency Services, such as Vic Police, Vic Ambulance, MFB, CFA, SES, local, state and federal governments.

What does the future hold for yourself at the station?

Hopefully many more years of doing what I love best and that is working within the radio industry as it’s all I have ever known.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I am crazy about cricket. I am also an avid book reader and love watching movies and bingeing on TV series.
