Brimbank council is seeking community feedback on the proposed name of Sunshine’s newest park.
The name, Sunvale Community Park, pays homage to the site’s previous history as Sunvale Primary School and, according to Brimbank mayor John Hedditch, reflects community sentiment.
“The local community campaigned strongly to create this park and affectionately named the site Sunvale Community Park during the campaign,” he said.
“This proposal would make that name official.
“Many Sunshine residents feel a strong attachment to the site and its history – this proposed name honours that connection.”
The council adopted the Sunvale Community Park Master Plan in June last year following extensive community consultation.
Construction of the park, which will include multiple play spaces, began in June this year.
All existing trees on the site are set to be retained and a number of large, new trees are scheduled to be planted to provide shade.
Feedback on the proposed name can be delivered via the council website at www.brimbank.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay.
Submissions close on Thursday, October 26, after which council will consider the matter at a later meeting.
