Seniors Festival set to draw big crowds

Seniors will be out in force next month at one of Brimbank’s most popular festivals.

The Brimbank Seniors Festival will be launched on Tuesday, October 10. Mayor John Hedditch says there is a wide variety of events to be enjoyed.

“There are 24 events being held as part of this year’s festival, including ‘in conversation’ events, open days, opera and orchestra performances, exhibitions and classes at our leisure centres – most at no cost,” Cr Hedditch said.

“I encourage all our seniors to get involved in the festival – have fun, try something new and meet some new people.”

Brimbank Croquet Club is doing its bit to help celebrate the senior community. The club will hold an open day on October 26.

Club president Lilian Jurey is encouraging people from all backgrounds to try their hand at the sport.

“I’ve been playing croquet for the past eight years and I honestly can’t imagine my life without it. I just love it and we’d be thrilled to see some new members join our club,” she said.

The festival is part of the Victorian Seniors Festival, now in its 35th year, which will run throughout October.
