Workshops for business

Brimbank Community and Civic Centre will host the 2016 Victorian Small Business Festival with a Building your business advantage workshop for August 24. It runs from 6pm until 9.30pm, $30 a head. To register, go to http://bit.ly/businessfestival2016

Local Amnesty group meets

Human rights defenders Amnesty International Australia Watergardens meets every fourth Wednesday at 7pm at Sydenham library. Flexible to individual needs, the group is currently planning some exciting actions and would welcome the input of new members. Come along and add your perspective on human rights issues and events.

Live the good life

Brimbank council’s free sustainable living series offers first-hand knowledge from experts, provides access to resources and links up like-minded people. From August through to November, workshops include vertical gardens on August 27; Sustainable House Day on September 11; green cleaning on September 17; waterwise kids on September 27; home-grown day on October 9; organic pest control on October 20 and recycling gems on November 13. Sunny-side up at station

Let’s build language

The second of two bilingual seminars for parents, grandparents and carers will be held at the new Sunshine library on August 25, 1.30-3pm, featuring Professor John Hajek from the University of Melbourne. First-timers are priority

Struggling families now have a leg-up to get their children into sport, with applications now open for Brimbank council’s In2Sport membership subsidy program. The program provides opportunities for local children, aged between six and 18 years, to participate in sport and recreation with a $200 grant towards club fees for families with health care or pension concession cards. First-time applicants will have priority for the first two weeks after applications open on September 1. Applications close December 1.
