A new ‘tech-savvy’ digital learning program will help some of Brimbank’s 25,000 older Vietnamese-speaking residents better understand the age of technology.
Victorian Tech Savvy Seniors, an age-friendly partners program for card-carrying seniors, helps older people sharpen their skills and narrow the digital divide.
The $7000 program will be available from November at libraries around Brimbank.
The classes will also be available for seniors who speak Macedonian and Arabic.
Brimbank council says there are 5205 and 4160 locals speaking Macedonian and Arabic, respectively.
There are also 25,279 residents in Brimbank who speak Vietnamese, it says.
The program runs until the end of June next year.
Users will be able to access training DVDs and other information, and will get the heads-up on relevant events.
Council’s community wellbeing director Kath Brackett said there was high demand for the program from Vietnamese, Macedonian and Arabic speaking communities.
