Bullies go to water

By Charlene Macaulay

A Derrimut mother and son want to break the world record for the world’s biggest water balloon fight as part of a campaign against bullying.

Gaby and Dante Company, who run public speaking and presentation skills business Persuasive Communication, have six months to organise their world record attempt and are keen for it to get the same level of exposure as last year’s ice bucket challenge, which raised money for research into Motor Neurone Disease.

Ms Company said the current world record was achieved in America with 8957 participants.

“The current record was done just for fun,” she said. “My son and I work with teenagers and we realised there were a lot of kids suffering bullying. In many cases, even the parents didn’t know about the bullying. We want to do this event as a symbol against bullying. There are a lot of people hiding their feelings because of fear, because of retaliation. We want people to feel confident.”

The pair have yet to determine a location for the water balloon fight challenge but would like to hear from balloon participants – in their thousands.
