Homeless help wins acclaim

A seven-year-old girl from Point Cook, who set up a foundation to help feed homeless people, has been recognised for her compassion.

Andi was just six years old when she founded Food for Free.

She started out making snack packs she would hand out to homeless people while accompanied by her family, including younger brother, Tex.

These days, they distribute the snack packs to community groups and charities which assist the homeless.

Earlier this month, Andi was presented two awards by the non-profit Pretty Foundation, which aims to teach girls they are valuable for who they are, rather than for their looks.

In addition to winning the foundation’s Pretty Compassionate award, Andi received the overall Pretty Inspirational award at a ceremony that honoured nine girls aged under 18.

“I felt shy and excited,” Andi said. “I would like to build a food truck … and deliver food to homeless people.”
