February 8, 1978

A report on retail shopping studies prepared for the Housing Commission has recommended that a future regional shopping centre for Werribee should be located in the vicinity of Tarneit and Heaths roads. The report further recommends that the present Werribee Central shopping area should be classified as a community centre.

February 10, 1988

A Werribee woman will spend $50,000 to fund a legal battle which she and a group of local residents will soon launch in a bid to fight proposals to set up a shooting range in Werribee. The resident, Mrs Cathie Cassar, is furious that the Werribee International Shooting Complex Incorporated’s plan for the approved shotgun range at Ballan Rd, Werribee, will lead to the use of other weapons including pistols, air rifles, full and small bore guns.

A guard could be injured or killed working at the Port Phillip Prison because of poor security, the shadow minister for corrections, Mr Haermeyer, has warned. Mr Haermeyer made the claim yesterday after reports about wide-spread drug taking by inmates at the correctional facility.

The long-running Werribee DVD case closed yesterday when the remaining three defendants were sentenced in the Melbourne Children’s Court. All three pleaded guilty to making child pornography, common law assault and procuring sexual penetration by intimidation.
