July 6, 1977

Werribee Shire Council, on Monday night, approved a proposal by ICI to build a $36 million PVC plant at Laverton North. The plant will be situated at Leakes Road, behind the present Pigments plant and will provide employment for 100 people.

July 1, 1987

Werribee Leukaemia patient Rick Boland would not have celebrated his 23rd birthday last Friday, had it not been for the love and care of his sister Judy. For it was only 12 months ago that the brave young man was fighting off the painful effects of chemotherapy as he faced a life of misery and suffering through the cruel treatment.

July 2, 1997

Werribee RSL officials yesterday (Tuesday) applauded a council decision to refuse a planning permit for an adult sex bookshop in Werribee’s multi-million central business district. The RSL believes the shop would have been a blight on the soldiers whose names are memorialised on the cenotaph in Station Place and discourage families from attending commemorative services.

Werribee’s Glen Orden Primary School will take part in a state-first initiative to reduce the disadvantages communities face in missing out on the internet revolution. Through the pilot program, 100 parents will receive a computer, 12-month broadband internet access and training at the school.
