Invasion Day eve concert

Musician and poet Camae Ayewa, aka Moor Mother, and writer/activist Rasheedah Phillips perform as Black Quantum Futurism, speaking about the struggles of American black history. It’s on Thursday, January 25 from 7pm at The Substation, 1 Market Street, Newport. Tickets: $30/$20.

Food Truck Fiesta is set to welcome thousands to Seaworks in Williamstown from January 25-28, with a host of Melbourne’s best food trucks, live music, rides and family-friendly entertainment.

Colour for kids

Wheelie Good Fun has partnered with Highpoint to deliver Fun In Colour: a children’s festival on January 27-28. Free workshops from 11am to 4pm will include glow in the dark art and science play.

Australia Day in Altona

Celebrations, centred around Altona beach, Logan Reserve and Pier Street, start at 11am and culminate in fireworks about 9pm on Friday, January 26.

Moonlight movie

Ali’s Wedding (M) will be screened at Williamtown’s Commonwealth Reserve on Saturday, January 27 at dusk (about 8.30pm) as part of Hobsons Bay council’s free Movies by the Bay program.

Walk and talk

A walking group meets every Wednesday during term dates at Joan Kirner House, 14 Thompson Street, Williamstown. The first walk of the year is on January 31 from 10.15am, followed by morning tea at 11am.
