Giving Tree

Brimbank council has initiated The Giving Tree to help people in the community struggling at this time of year. Council will collect and distribute non-perishable items around the community via local agencies in the lead-up to Christmas. For more on what to donate and collection points, go to

Christmas decorations

Need some new decorations for the family Christmas tree? Why not take the kids to one of the Brimbank libraries and make some of your own to take home. It starts December 19 at all libraries, and all you need to do is to go online to www.brimbank.vic.gov.au/events/december-school-holidays-festive-decorations-brimbank-libraries to find the best day for you. For kids aged 5-12, no cost.

 

Zumba

Zumba combines Latin and international music with dance to make exercise fun. The easy-to-follow moves mean people of all ages and abilities can join in – noting that this is a female-only program, Wednesdays at Deer Park Community Hub, 7pm. $5 per session, bookings essential

Twilight market

Derrimut Community Centre’s family fun day and twilight market is on December 18, 4-7pm.

Carols by candlelight

Join Deer Park Lions Club for free carols and family entertainment on December 17 in Sassella Park, featuring the Sunshine Community Brass Band, a barbecue and cake stall. 119 Station Road, Deer Park, 7.30pm onwards.

Sunshine Salvos

Join Sunshine Salvos on Sunday, December 18, at 42 Devonshire Road, Sunshine, with singing, fun for kids, face painting, a barbecue and lots of Christmas spirit. Kids activities start from 3pm, with carols kicking off at 4-5pm.

If someone you love is drinking too much, try Al-Anon family groups. No contracts to sign, no appointment needed.

Confidential meetings respecting anonymity are held in Brimbank. Sunshine group meets every Wednesday from 10.30am until noon. Uniting Church conference room at 28 Withers Street. New members welcome.
