Body found at lake reserve

Police found a man’s body in a Cairnlea lake last month, but the discovery has not been deemed suspicious. The body was found at Iramoo’s wildflower grassland reserve about 5pm on October 28.. Brimbank’s Acting Inspector Chris Gilbert said police were preparing a report for the Coroner. Lifeline: 13 11 14

Shooting information sought

Police are appealing for information about an incident in which a man was shot in the leg. They said the St Albans man, 30, went to Sunshine Hospital at 6.45pm on October 27. Acting Inspector Gilbert said the man had since been transferred to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Saab set alight in Sunshine North

Investigations continue into a car fire in Sunshine North. Firefighters and police were called to McIntyre Road, Sunshine North, at 5.30am on October 28 and found a Saab sedan had been set alight. It’s believed an accelerant was poured on the car. Information to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000

Dispute reveals cannabis crop

Police were called to a house in Fox Street St Albans at 5.30 on October 28 to deal with a family dispute but instead found a hydroponic cannabis crop.Acting Inspector Gilbert said a man, 29, would be charged with assault and drug offences. He will face Sunshine Magistrates Court this month.

First relay raises the bar

More than $28,000 has been raised as part of Brimbank’s inaugural Relay for Life event. The relay, held at the Kevin Flint Memorial Reserve in Cairnlea on October 27 and 28, involved more than 270 people. Organisers are hoping to raise $30,000 by mid-December. Trade training funds to flow

Schools in the west can apply for a share in the federal government’s Trade Training Centres project. The $400 million initiative will be split into two phases of $200 million. Maribyrnong Labor MP Bill Shorten said the centres played an important role in creating a link between schools, students, industry and businesses. Applications open November 30, 2012.
