Grant for nurse training

Sunshine Hospital will receive a $318,000 grant for specialist paediatric training of emergency nurses. Maribyrnong Labor MP Bill Shorten said the federal funding would be used to develop an advanced practice paediatric nurse role, which will also support and train other emergency department nurses in paediatric care.

Guilty plea on forgery

A Deer Park man has been fined $4000 and sentenced to a 12-month community correction order after he admitted submitting false documents to Insolvency and Trustee Service Australia. Adam Toma, 26, pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates Court last week to six counts of forgery. Toma produced false documents in the names of six women he knew. .

House fire ‘suspicious’

A St Albans fire which caused more than $200,000 worth of damage last week is being treated as ‘suspicious’. Eighteen firefighters were called to the blaze at a single-storey, three-bedroom house in East Esplanade just after 10am.

Would-be robbers flee

Police are searching for three men involved in an attempted armed robbery. The men entered a milk bar on Balnarring Drive, Kings Park, about 8.15 last Monday night. They were wearing hoodies, gloves and scarves covering their faces. One of the men wielded a kitchen knife while another had a hammer. The men fled the store when the owner yelled out.

Swan shooter fined

A Cairnlea man has been convicted of shooting a black swan with an arrow in Altona North this year. The man, 26, was fined more than $3000 after pleading guilty at the Sunshine Magistrates Court on September 28.
