Planning permit refused to Melbourne Water

BRIMBANK Council has officially dismissed Melbourne Water’s application for a combined planning permit at Sunshine’s Fraser Street Park. 

The amendment would have led to the rezoning of parkland for residential use. 

As reported by the Weekly last month, Melbourne Water announced it would abandon the plans following three years of community opposition.

Illegal brothels raided, pair charged

A man and a woman have been charged following raids on suspected illegal brothels in Tottenham. 

Police searched two properties in Sunshine Road about 6.40pm last Monday. 

A Cairnlea woman, 60, and a St Albans man, 44, were charged with knowingly or recklessly carrying on business for sex work without a licence. 

They were bailed to appear at Sunshine Magistrates Court on November 22.

St Albans fire leaves $100,000 damage

A St Albans house fire that caused more than $100,000 damage is being treated as suspicious. 

Police are investigating the blaze at a Henry Street unit last Wednesday. 

Firefighters were called to the scene just before 10.30pm. They found the front section of the brick veneer unit and part of the roof engulfed in flames. No one was home.
