Police, SES scour Maribyrnong River for missing man

POLICE and SES volunteers are scouring the Maribyrnong River after a man tried swimming from one side to the other after drinking with friends at a nearby hotel on Sunday night.

The 37-year-old Taylors Lakes man jumped into the water near the Anglers Tavern around 10pm.

His friends have told police that they saw him on the other side of the river, near a small jetty, before he disappeared.

Police were alerted to his disappearance at noon on Monday after he failed to return to his home.

Local police, search and rescue and water police are searching the river and surrounding area.
