Year 9 students from Catholic

Year 9 students from Catholic Regional College in St Albans were able to experience what it’s like to have a disability as part of Scope Victoria’s ‘See Me September’ initiative. The program encourages people to see the person rather than the disability. Teacher Gary O’Connor said students like Lan (pictured) took up physically restrictive activities as part of last week’s program. “We had students tie their hands up and try to complete tasks,” he said. “We also explored the concept of cerebral palsy and how difficult it can be for people with the condition to communicate verbally. We got students to stick a lollipop in either side of their mouth and try to speak to their partner.” Disability teachers visited the school to share their stories of how they live with a disability every day.
