TAYLORS Lakes took a step closer to an Essendon District Football League division 1 finals berth with a 26-point win over Hadfield at Lionheart Reserve on Saturday.
The Lions controlled the game throughout, but sloppy kicking for goal left the door ajar for the visitors in the last quarter.
Lachlan Calder’s three goals were critical for the Lions, while Mark Jurcec, Andrew Crowe and Mark Desousa had a big say on the result.
The Lions remain outright third on the ladder, but need to keep winning to retain a buffer over a four-team bunch snapping at their heels on one less win.
Meanwhile, it will be a historic moment in the EDFL when 5pm arrives on Saturday, with the competition to split into three divisions.
Hillside Sharks and Keilor Park will play their last games in the second tier for the foreseeable future as they join East Keilor, Roxburgh Park, Moonee Valley and Jacana in division 2 from July 21.
Premier division: Keilor 7.11 (53) lt Greenvale 14.13 (97).
Division 1: Taylors Lakes 9.14 (68) d Hadfield 6.6 (42); Hillside 12.9 (81) lt Glenroy 18.13 (121); Airport West 46.21 (297) d Keilor Park 2.1 (13).
