VNL: City West Falcons soar

CITY West Falcons sealed the minor premiership with a 56-39 win over the Southern Saints in the Victorian Netball League championship division at the State Netball and Hockey Centre on Wednesday night.

The Falcons had to negotiate a tough opening period before assuming total control in the second on the back of a near flawless 41-from-44 shooting performance from Kathleen Knott.

They will be one of the two teams in the major semi-final for the right to direct entry to the grand final.

The fate of VU-Western Lightning will come down to the final night of the season. It missed its chance to seal a finals berth after a narrow 38-35 loss to Monash University Central.

The equation is simple for the Lightning: beat the Yarra Valley Grammar Ariels tomorrow night and grab fourth spot.
