SEVEN people, including four children, have been charged over violent armed robberies on taxi drivers across Laverton North, Brooklyn and Sunshine.
Police said four of the alleged offenders, aged 14-17, had been remanded in custody to face a children’s court. Each one faces at least four charges of armed robbery.
Arrests were made by an eight-member Brimbank police taskforce formed to investigate the June 18 attacks. A Derrimut man, 19, faced Melbourne Magistrates Court last Tuesday after being charged with robbery offences.
A Truganina man, 20, and a Westmeadows man, also 20, were bailed after being charged with handling stolen goods. A Kings Park girl, 16, was released pending further inquiries.
Police say five drivers were targeted in a spate of attacks when a group of people in two cars ambushed them in the early hours of last Monday.
Police said the attackers threatened and beat the drivers with baseball bats, demanding money and mobile phones.
Two victims were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The spree started at midnight on Anderson Road, Sunshine, before another four taxi drivers were attacked in surrounding suburbs, with the last incident at 1.30am.
