EDFL: Blues’ Garth steals the show with 11 goals

KEILOR has kept its finals hopes alive on the back of 11 goals from Jarrod Garth.

Needing a win to stay with the pack, the Blues dominated after quarter-time, winning 21.18 (144) to 12.13 (85) against Pascoe Vale in the Essendon District Football League premier division.

Blues coach Mick McGuane said it was pleasing to see such a team effort.

“We won the ball where the ball needed to be won, which was at the coalface.

“Our decision-making was really good, the right decisions were made and players picked out players who were in the right positions.

“It was good to dominate a game like that … we were very polished after half-time.”

He said that Garth’s performance was unbelievable, particularly as he was often outnumbered.

“We thought that he was capable of doing something like that.

“With the match-ups they had, we spoke about it during the week and pre-game, but for it to happen is a different story.

“He had 17 scoring shots, despite having two-three players on him for most of the day.”

McGuane said that all 22 players contributed.

“It’s hard to single anyone out.

“It’s the first time Pascoe Vale has been beaten like that and you need to have 22 players playing well to put in a performance like that.”

He said the team’s fate rested in its own hands.

“We just have to keep winning and keep control of our destiny.”

The Blues have a day off this week with no play on the holiday weekend, before facing the Doutta Stars at home the following week.
