FORMER Sunshine College student Sarah De Bono finished fourth in the mega-TV hit The Voice last night.
De Bono, 19, has come a long way since growing up in Melbourne’s west, where she attended school at Sunshine College.
De Bono was teaching music at St Matthews in North Fawkner when she was approached by the producers of The Voice last year.
“Teaching is good, but I’ve always had that dream of being the artist I’ve always wanted to be,” she says.
“Somebody had told them to check me out and they contacted me. I’m so glad they did because it’s been an amazing experience and so positive.
“The Voice gives you the chance to do what you love and be recognised for it.
“It allows you to start a career in what you want to do.”
She cites her influences as Whitney Houston, Jessie J and Michael Jackson, but De Bono’s own mixture of soul, R&B and pop has struck a chord with viewers, earning her a place in the final rounds of competition.
There are four teams and De Bono has made it to the last four in Team Joel, mentored by Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden.
De Bono says of Madden: “What you see on camera is what you get; he’s really genuine and down to earth.”
De Bono is no stranger to performing, having sung with her band, Snag, at various events. She relishes the chance to perform to a big crowd.
“It’s a massive adrenalin rush when you get on the stage because you know how important it is.”
