Curriculum a shade of green

A NORTH Sunshine childcare teacher has been recognised for raising environmental awareness.

In Sydney on May 25, Phoenix Street Children’s Centre director Narrelle Cahill was named Australian Scholarships Group ‘early childhood director of the year’.

Since starting at Phoenix Street in 2009, Ms Cahill has promoted an understanding of nature.

She has developed programs including Little Green Hand Prints, a practical approach to environmental education for children and their educators.

“I have a lot of passion for early childhood education and I’ve loved introducing sustainable practices,” she says.

“We recycle and are in the process of [being] certified as a green centre, which will make us the first centre in the west to have that approval.”

Ms Cahill received a crystal trophy and development grants and prizes worth almost $10,000.
