THE Melbourne Knights have sacked coach Paul Magdic following the club’s fourth home loss this season.
The Knights, who have won only two games in the Victorian Premier League, lost to Oakleigh 2-1 on Saturday.
Club president Ange Cimera said they didn’t have much of a choice but to sack Magdic and his assistant Lorenz Kindtner.
‘‘We are third last on the ladder and our home performances have been terrible.
‘‘Paul had tried everything he could but it didn’t work. We haven’t won a home game all season.’’
Cimera said he spoke to the coaching staff, two weeks ago and gave them more time to try and turn around the results.
Former Socceroo Andrew Marth has been given the job of trying to keep the side in the top division.
Marth, a former player with the Knights, coached the side in 2002-2003.
His assistant will be current goal keeper coach, Frank Juric.
Cimera said Marth had contacted him and had asked how he could help the team out.
On the Knights Facebook page Marth said he was aware of the of the difficult task ahead “It’s an honour and privilege to be back at the Knights. The club has always been in my heart, so it’s all about bringing that passion back and brining out the best in this squad. It’s not beyond us to do well.”
His first up test will be against one of his former teams Green Gully.
