Big V: Keilor Thunder down Jets

KEILOR Thunder overcame another poor second-quarter effort to post a four-point win against Sunbury in the Victorian Basketball League Big V women’s division 1.

Coming off a 23-point loss last week to Mildura in which they managed only three points in the second term, the Thunder, again on the road, were keen to make amends.

The Thunder started the better of the two teams and were able to capitalise on better accuracy, grabbing a six-point lead at the first break.

But for the second week running, the Thunder were let down by a poor second term, scoring only six points.

Despite having six more field shot attempts than the Jets, the Thunder could hit only three shots for the quarter, resulting in a 14-point turnaround that saw them down by eight points at the main break.

In the third term, the Thunder shot a high 50 per cent from the field.

After failing to convert from beyond the arch in the first half, the Thunder finally made some three-pointers which helped bridge the gap to two points at the last break.

The final term was a battle, with neither side able to apply any scoreboard pressure and both shooting below 25 per cent.

In the end, the Thunder were able to make some clutch baskets to win by four points in an even game.

Jessica Francke top-scored with 17 points, with Karla Mavor chipping in with 14 points and Katherine Black scoring nine points and taking 11 rebounds.

The win took the Thunder to three wins from nine starts.
