ORGANISERS of St Albans’s annual Lunar Festival have been recognised with a national award.
The St Albans Business Group won an accolade for ‘best festival or promotion with no formal funding’ at Mainstreet Australia’s annual awards last week.
Group president Sam Agricola said traders were “over the moon”.
“It’s recognition for the hard work by the committee to bring about a magnificent festival for all the community to enjoy.”
Brimbank Council chairman Peter Lewinsky said the Vietnamese new year festival was the municipality’s biggest multicultural celebration and drew a crowd of 80,000 this year.
“It’s difficult to be totally accurate when nailing down the dollar contribution to the economy, but it’s been estimated to be around $1.6 million.”
