Brimbank roadworks are getting there

TWO dangerous black spots in Brimbank will be fixed thanks to $445,000 in federal government funding.

Work at Cairnlea Drive in Cairnlea will include modifying roundabouts from Stockton Drive to Prospector Drive and installing rubber kerbing, linemarking and signs.

The other project, at the intersection of Station Avenue and Oberon Avenue in St Albans, will include construction of a roundabout, relocation of a pole and installation of street lighting.

Both projects will increase visibility at the intersections and were recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts. They are due to be completed next financial year.

Maribyrnong MP Bill Shorten said the $225,000 St Albans project would be welcomed by the community.

“It will make that part of St Albans much safer for residents and visitors, improving traffic flow and visibility.”

Gorton MP Brendan O’Connor said the projects would make roads safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

He said residents could suggest other roads to be considered for future upgrades.

Nomination forms are available at Mr O’Connor’s Keilor office.

Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said an independent evaluation of the black spot program found it prevented at least 32 fatalities and more than 1500 serious injuries in its first three years.
