FFV: Cavaliers’ persistence yields rewards

TWO second-half goals in quick succession lifted Green Gully Cavaliers to a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Richmond Eagles in the Victorian Premier League at Kevin Bartlett Reserve on a chilly Friday night.

The Cavs coughed up a goal in the 11th minute after the concession of a free kick in a dangerous position and Scott Muirhead pounced at the back end of the set piece to score for the Eagles.

Undeterred, the Cavs came out with a purpose after half-time to put the Eagles on the back foot, their persistence paying off with an equalising goal to New Zealander Jason Hayne in the 66th minute, followed two minutes later by a would-be winner from big-game performer Hamid Basma.
