EDFL: Keilor’s struggling with one win

KEILOR is at the wrong end of the divide in the Essendon District Football League premier division.

The top flight has split into two after five weeks with top four sides – Greenvale, Strathmore, Aberfeldie and Oak Park – forming a breakaway and the rest scrambling to be relevant.

The Blues are struggling with one win from five matches and lost a game they would have pencilled in for a win by a narrow five points to Avondale Heights at Canning Street Reserve on Saturday.

They led by 23 points at three-quarter-time before the Heights produced a stunning six-goal-to-two last quarter to run over the top.

New recruits, onballer Ben Fletcher and key position player Jason Butty, both from Hoppers Crossing in the Western Region Football League, were named best for their side.

Dean Putt, with three goals, Rodney van Riet and Mikka James were the other Blues standouts.

In division 1, former Carlton champion Anthony Koutoufides could not inspire Hillside Sharks to a first-ever win over local rivals Taylors Lakes at Hillside Reserve.

The Lions ran out winners by 36 points. Sonny Briz, Mark De Sousa and Matt Morelli was outstanding for the visitors.

Premier division: Avondale Heights 13.15 (93) d Keilor 13.10 (88)

Division 1: Hillside 5.3 (33) lt Taylors Lakes 10.9 (69), Keilor Park 7.10 (52) lt Roxburgh Park 8.11 (59)
