WENPO Sun says he doesn’t need a team of technology experts to make his mark on the lucrative mobile application development industry.
The Delahey resident, 24, has started his own company to create applications for iPhone and iPad and is already tasting success.
Mr Sun launched Comicorp Worlds in September last year and has developed six apps.
Interactive children’s book Striding Bird has been downloaded 7000 times by users from across the world. The app has featured in the ‘what’s hot’ section on Apple’s Australian store.
Mr Sun, who studied a three-year bachelor of information technology and graphics programming at RMIT University, says he learnt how to develop apps in his spare time.
“I learned to apply the graphics and IT skills I learned in university to create apps for iPhone, ” he says.
“I got a job with a technology research consultancy based in Melbourne and worked there for about two years.”
In February he decided he could go it alone and left the consultancy to focus on expanding Comicorp Worlds.
“It is a one-man show at the moment and I do everything from graphic design to music.”
He did have some help with Striding Bird.
“My girlfriend wrote the story and I used her voice for the voiceover,” he says.
“The ‘what’s hot’ feature shows that even the little guys can still make their mark on the app store. I’m pleased the company is doing so well in Australia.”
Mr Sun plans to crunch out product after product.
“I’m hoping to expand the company by adding workers and hopefully it will grow. I will be following trends. I’m focused on mobile development but I’ll be looking at any new technologies.”
