WORK will begin on a $5.8 million redevelopment of Sunshine’s Visy Cares Hub this week.
A new building will connect to the existing youth hub via a new 150-seat atrium-style meeting room.
Wilkore Pty Ltd will build a new foyer and community gallery, youth lounge and community meeting and function spaces.
Existing tenant The Youth Junction Inc will move into the second storey, while Brimbank Council’s youth services team and Neighbourhood House Outreach sets up shop downstairs.
Council chairman Peter Lewinsky says that with more than one in three Brimbank residents aged under 25, a boost to youth services was sorely needed.
The revamp is part of a plan to revitalise Sunshine town centre.
The council is contributing $2.5 million to the project, with a further $2 million from the federal government, $800,000 from the Pratt Foundation and $500,000 from the state government.
