VPL: Cavaliers shocked in season opener

GREEN Gully Cavaliers made a horror start to the 2012 Victorian Premier League season.

The defending champions were beaten 4-1 in brutal fashion by the Bentleigh Greens at Kingston Heath on Friday night.

Cavs striker Joel Nikolic pounced on a Greens defensive error in the 20th minute to give the visitors a lead at half-time.

Their joy was short-lived with the Greens piling on four goals in 21 minutes midway through the second half to canter to victory.

The Cavs take on Heidelberg United at Green Gully Reserve on Saturday.
