A BRIMBANK support group is calling on residents to join Ari, Kon and Aleks (pictured) for a community picnic on April 1 to raise awareness of autism.
Autism Angels will host a teddy bears’ picnic at Cliff Harvey Lagoon in Keilor to mark World Autism Day.
Residents are being urged to share in activities including a barbecue, jumping castle and other children’s entertainment.
Group member Despina Havelas says there is a desperate need for greater support for families with children who have autism.
“People need to know the rate of kids with autism is increasing each year,” she says.
“More and more parents need support and kids with autism need social programs to get them involved in the community.”
