VNL: Pride falls to on-fire Lightning

VU-WESTERN Lightning is on fire in the Victorian Netball League.

The Lightning backed up from its derby triumph to put Ballarat Pride to the sword in a 54-39 win at the State Netball and Hockey Centre on Wednesday night.

The best on court for the Lightning was wing attack Amelia Hills, who snapped up three umpire’s votes.

Centre Elle Bennetts and goal defence Brooke Thompson rounded out the vote-getters.

The Lightning takes to the country on Saturday night for a clash with the Southern Saints in Bendigo.

Meanwhile, City West Falcons rebounded from their derby loss with an emphatic 62-44 win over the North East Blaze at SNHC.

Kathleen Knott showed her class under the cylinder with 44-from-50 for an impressive 88 per cent return.

Peta Fay was unpassable at goal defence and Maggie Lind a ball of energy in attack.

The Falcons, who survived a tough opening month with three wins from four, entertain the Yarra Valley Grammar Ariels at SNHC tomorrow night.
