Lick of paint makes a home for charity

THE team behind the west’s newest community group now has a place to call home.

Volunteers (pictured) came together last Tuesday to give a fresh coat of paint to the new Deer Park office for Western Festival Activities for the Disadvantaged (WESTFAD).

The space was provided by Deer Park Pharmacy’s Chris Luu and will be the headquarters of the group’s fund-raising efforts.

Coming events include a 24-hour marathon at Deer Park’s Obsessed With Fitness gym, with all proceeds going to the Royal Children’s Hospital.

The group will also team up with Cancer Council Victoria to host Brimbank’s Relay for Life.

WESTFAD spokesman Les Tarczon says the painting project received a helping hand from Dulux’s ‘Painting Our Community’ project and Bunnings Warehouse Sunshine and Caroline Springs.

He says the group is always on the look-out for new volunteers.

“While corporate sponsorship is great and most appreciated, community organisations like WESTFAD require a lot of work.”
