Brimbank burglaries spark blitz

BRIMBANK police have launched a high-visibility blitz on crime hot spots.

Joined by the operations response unit, police are saturating the area with patrols in the hope of reducing burglaries and other crime.

The move follows figures showing residential burglaries in Brimbank have skyrocketed almost 60 per cent in the past year.

Inspector Mick Grainger says social disadvantage is one of the reasons robberies and house burglaries are significant issues across the city.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Button says police are targeting repeat offenders.

“We are working hard to address the issue and ask the community to assist us by reporting anything out of place or suspicious,” Detective Sergeant Button said.

“Valuable information or intelligence often comes from members of the public who spot something that’s not quite right.”
