WILL 13 be a lucky number for Sunshine Eagles in the Baseball Victoria summer league division 2?
The second-placed Eagles go in search of a 13th straight victory when they face top-of-the-ladder Mulgrave in a mesmerising final round bout at Barclay Reserve on Saturday.
Effectively the game doubles as a promotion play-off.
The winning side will feel as though Christmas has come early when they unwrap top ranking in the finals, the minor premiership and the golden nugget of automatic promotion to division 1.
This is exactly what the Eagles have been working towards since setting out on a three-month unbeaten run dating back to the second week of December.
Led by dependable starting pitcher Rory Meddick, the Eagles gave themselves a great chance of finishing on top of the pile on Saturday when they beat western suburbs rivals Newport Rams 6-2 on the road at KC White Reserve.
All fans should get down to Talmage Street, Sunshine, to show their support for the Eagles in their quest to return to Victorian baseball’s top flight competition.
The first pitch will be thrown at 1pm on Saturday.
