Being sent to the principal’s office was good news for Monmia Primary School student Brooke last Wednesday.
Brooke (pictured) joined more than 300 students from across Australia in becoming “principal for the day” on June 3.
Organised by the Principals Australia Institute, the event is part of a campaign
to encourage leadership in Australian students.
Institute chief executive Jim Davies said the campaign was aimed at “unleashing and inspiring” students’ best qualities. As student principal, Brooke shadowed regular principal Lorraine Bell and undertook tasks that included attending meetings. Her first item to deal with as principal was a policy for fair use of the down-ball courts.
“She saw some children missed out when other groups ‘baggsed’ the courts,” Ms Bell said. “Brooke said it would be fairer if they rotated the courts every 15 minutes.”
