Giants come to life
Giant puppets made by young Pacific Islanders of Brimbank, working with Snuff Puppets artists, will be at Federation Square from 5.45pm on June 20 to perform a Tongan legend Maui Steals Fire from the Underworld. It’s part of the Light in Winter Festival’s Solstice celebration.
Poetic licence
Join Lorraine Marwood, winner of the Prime Minister’s Literary Award, at the Granary Cafe on June 13. This workshop-over-coffee will cover different poetic forms, structures and imagery to help create engaging and original poems.
Be inspired
St Albans library will host a talk by refugee and author Abdi Aden on June 16 at 1.30pm during Refugee Week. Having come from war-torn Somalia and travelled through many countries before finding himself on the streets of Australia – all by the age of 15 – Abdi will share his courageous story of survival. It’s free, but booking is advised.
Put the dancing shoes on
Keilor branch of Parents without Partners has its monthly dance at 7.30pm on June 19 at the ICKA club, Keilor Park Drive. Entry is $10 at the door. Strict dress code.

Red-dy to disco
All are welcome to the first Little Rockers Red Nose disco on June 26, which will feature live performances from Shelley Craft and her band, Animal Farm. Hosted by SIDS and Kids, the disco will be at Luna Park from 8.30am until 8.30pm. Tickets are $11.50 and money will go to SIDS and Kids services.

Tanzanian perspective
Sponsored by Brimbank council, Children of Tanzania is a photographic exhibition focusing on faces and places of everyday life in Tanzania. The exhibition began at a school in Arusha in the country’s north. Now it’s at Sunshine Art Spaces Gallery, 2 City Place, noon until 4pm on
