A state-of-the-art dual tricycle is on the road for public use, thanks to a generous donation to Brimbank Bicycle Education Centre.
The American-made Team trike, valued at more than $4000, comes courtesy of Taylors Lakes Lions Club and was presented to
the bike ed centre’s management committee last month.
Centre president David Bennett said the dual-operated tricycle means two people can ride side by side, which is especially useful for people with disabilities who need to ride with support.
It would also allow more people to experience the freedom and joy of riding a bike.
“This will make a significant difference to the whole disabled program at the centre,” Mr Bennett said.
“It means some people who have difficulty riding on their own can now sit comfortably on the tricycle with their carer beside them. It’s much safer.
“This is a community facility and our committee of management is trying to make it available to as many different groups as we can.”
The centre has been open since 1992 and has been managed by a committee of volunteers from Brimbank Central Rotary Club and Taylors Lakes Lions Club since last August.
The centre is used by schools, groups and is often used for excursions and birthday parties. It is open to everyone in Brimbank.
