Brimbank writers awards

Short stories, poetry and song lyrics are all part of this year’s competition, offering writers the chance to win more than $3500 in prizes. The competition includes separate categories for children, teenagers and adults, as well as several writing workshops. Entries are open until July 10.

Bowel scans vital

Early detection is vital for the treatment of bowel cancer with 90 per cent of cases curable if detected early. The Rotary Club is offering simple, inexpensive Bowelscan program kits for $10 at the Sunshine Plaza Pharmacy. Take the test at home then return to the pharmacy for scanning. All tests must be returned by June 19.

Community visitors needed

The Multiple Sclerosis Community Visitors Scheme is seeking Ukrainian, Serbian and Polish speaking volunteers to join its program in Delahey and Ardeer areas. Volunteers are needed to visit elderly residents living in aged care centres and offer companionship on a fortnightly basis.
