Caroline Springs residents expecting parcels in the mail could have a long wait on their hands after an unattended Australia Post parcel delivery van was stolen and later dumped.
The van, loaded with 120 parcels estimated to be valued at thousands of dollars, was stolen on May 14.
It was later found, with some of the parcels, dumped in Albion.
Australia Post spokeswoman Jenni Bolton confirmed the theft of the van from Caroline Springs and said that police were immediately informed.
She said the parcels were bound for delivery in the Caroline Springs area.
“We are working closely with police, who have since recovered the vehicle,” Ms Bolton said.
“We are notifying affected customers who could be identified through parcel tracking information.”
Customers took to social media to vent their frustration.
One said the dumped packages were found in Albion.
“If you are waiting on any items that are or were due to be delivered on Thursday, they probably aren’t going to get to you,” he said.
“I received a phone call from a Caroline Springs resident who was working in Albion and came across all these dumped items. Most empty.
“I made my way there and met up with him and police. I know of expensive dresses, recipe books, cups from Myer that were in packaging ripped open.”
Other customers claimed they were waiting on pictures of family members, shoes, cookware and wedding albums expected in the same delivery.
“Our wedding albums are in there,” one wrote. “What use are wedding albums to anyone but us?”
Leading senior constable Adam West said the investigation was ongoing.
“We would be more than happy to speak to anyone who witnessed the theft of the van or who has more information about the incident,” he said.
